Maintenance and Management of High-Temperature Gear Pumps in Hot Melt Glue Machines

The high-temperature gear pump in a hot melt glue machine is an essential component for adhesive delivery, pressurization, and melt metering. Compared with other types of melt pumps, the high-temperature gear pump features a compact structure, reliable operation, low energy consumption, and high volumetric efficiency. It applies minimal shear to the melt, ensuring stable flow at high viscosity and high pressure without outlet pressure fluctuations.

With its unique advantages and critical role in the production process, this type of pump plays an irreplaceable role in polyester and other polymer processing applications.

However, if the pump is improperly operated or poorly maintained, not only will its performance be compromised, but it may also lead to sudden pump failure or damage.

Operation Management

1.Routine Maintenance

(1) Pump disassembly and cleaning, temperature ramp-up and ramp-down, and start/stop operations must be performed strictly in accordance with prescribed procedures to avoid unnecessary damage or loss.

(2) Maintain a stable inlet pressure for the booster pump so that it can achieve stable volumetric efficiency; this is beneficial both for pump reliability and for the stability of downstream spinning quality.

(3) For packing-sealed pumps that operate with negative inlet pressure, the pressure in the packing chamber must be kept above ambient atmospheric pressure. If back pressure drops, promptly adjust the packing-chamber pressure; otherwise, the pump may draw in air, causing the extruded cast ribbon to break, disrupting pelletizing and potentially causing pelletizer overflow.

(4) Frequently check the temperature of the heat-transfer (thermal) jacket. The medium temperature for the pump body and for the front and rear covers should be kept consistent.

(5) Each time production throughput is increased, record the instantaneous throughput, shaft speed (RPM), inlet and outlet pressures, and current (amperage). Compare the before-and-after data and analyze carefully so that any abnormalities can be detected early and addressed promptly.
